An overriding design concept from the beginning was to incorporate raw materials in the lobby to mimic those that helped forge Amazons corporate climate and the use of wood and concrete panels was to be the focal point. Early in the design and pricing process it was determined that the weight and sheer cost of concrete in the installation was outside the scope of the project budget. My job as project architect for the interiors was to provide construction documents for the detailing and materials of the lobby interiors, bringing the designers concepts to completion within the budget. My first interaction with you was to share the concept of the concrete panels and their detailing and to seek out a way to reduce their weight and cost of fabrication and installation. From the start you and your team understood the concept and provided extremely beneficial suggestions for the 3-dimensional utilization of GFRC 'Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete' panels instead of standard reinforced concrete panels. The high strength and lower weight of these panels reduced the cost of the installation to within budget requirements. Also of extreme importance was the desire to maintain tight tolerances between panels and a high level of detail not only on flat panel faces but on panels that wrapped corners while maintaining a seemingly random pattern. We• were able to succeed in all of these areas by utilizing your knowledge, expertise, and artistry. When I accompanied the designer through the completed project he was genuinely thrilled with the exactness of the final product and how it completely incorporated his earliest design concepts and brought them to fruition. You should be extremely proud of this high praise. Last spring we were contracted to build a fountain plaza for the NW Hospital which had a pre-cast concrete radius bench around the perimeter of the pool. Water features are not usual projects in our typical scope. We found out early on when soliciting for bids that it would be a challenge to find some one capable of performing the work to our high standards. Fortunately for us we found Absolute Concrete Works. Providing typical to high end or specialty stone and pre-cast concrete work is apparently their forte. They came to our offices and gave a presentation to our Principals and Project Managers to provide better familiarity of their product.
